Chica Brava teamed up with the organizers and kids of the Barrio Planta Project and took a fun-filled field trip to the Surf Ranch Resort; we were able to watch a skateboard competition, enjoy the beautiful pool, and just have fun!

The Barrio Planta Project is an after school program available to the youth of San Juan del Sur, who otherwise don’t have access to extracurricular activities. Occasionally, they get to do extra fun stuff and take a field trip out of town. The Surf Ranch Resort was generous enough to donate their entry fee to all the kids, so Chica Brava put together chaperones, snacks and vehicles to help make this day happen!

This wasn’t just special for the kids, but it was a blast for the people who volunteered their time too! This event happened to fall on the last day Madison, our summer instructor extraordinaire, was in town. Madison enjoyed playing with the kids, learning new games and said, ‘that was my favorite day of my whole time here in Nicaragua’! The fun began when we entered the Surf Ranch Resort to the bump of loud bass heavy music and skateboarders (both pros and amateurs) busting sick maneuvers. Our favorite little skater dude was a little five year old who rocked it – cruzzing across the park like he owned the place!

We were having a blast but the heat was pretty rough, so next thing you know the kids were dragging us all into the pool – fully clothed and cracking up with laughter. Being the water baby chicas that we are, we inevitably ended up giving impromptu swim lessons, then indulged with the sweet snacks mangos, bananas and wafer cookies.

Other highlights were a private lesson on the very Nica – fad taking over San Juan called traca-traca, watching a chica drop in on the ramp, and hanging out with Jamie, Ariana and Mario who volunteer with the BPP. It was a great day, and time flew since we were having so much fun! Basically you had to be there, so come next time, and meanwhile here is a video to give you a window into the good times!
