Once a month the Barrio Planta Project rewards their after-school program students to a fun-filled day at the local beach Playa Maderas. This past Saturday, Chica Brava was able to take part and volunteer by providing surf lessons to the over 30 students that attended. We were stoked to see that many of the kids were naturals when it came to riding the wild white wash and expressed the desire to learn more! There were other activities happening in and around the water as well; Building sand castles, burying amigos in the sand, soccer and taking a walk to the nearby beach of Mahajal are just to name a few! We are very happy to be able to inspire children to surf and to help out in our community. Chica Brava has signed on to volunteer with the BPP during every Perfect Attendance Day, and continue to spread the stoke!!
The Barrio Planta Project was started in 2008 by Dyani Makous and offers after-school classes to students from the ages of 7-17 that go to regular school in San Juan del Sur. Students have the opportunity to take part in free English classes, arts and crafts, and sports. This project has done so many things to help the underprivileged children of San Juan del Sur and continues to create encouragement and change to these kids lives.
