Over 4th of July weekend, Chica Brava hosted an amazing group of ladies who made the most out of the 5 day mini-camp. Packing in surf, dancing, crocodile spottings, ocean cruises and not to mention some amazing meals! Makana a native Hawaiian, was joined by Christy and Natsuki, both of whom live in New York, but also happen to have Hawaii roots. With Hawaii representing, the conversation slipped into pidgin (Hawaiian style slang) and talk of lomi salmon, poi, smoked fish and other local treats from the islands. The ladies were surprised at how much the landscape, tranquillo vibe, and the local people were similar to Hawaii, but they made sure to represent the aloha spirit all thru town.
Whenever introducing herself, Makana- with a warm strong smile, gave a kiss on the cheek and melodically said ‘aloha’! This random act of aloha startled some, but was embraced by all and within a short few days the whole town was calling her by her new nickname ‘Hawaii’. The New Yorkers were also super buena honda (good vibes) and greeted everyone with smiles, laughter and kindness. We had a great few days in the water, and between the three of them, plus Madison, Elsi and myself, there was all sorts of hooting and hollering going on in the water, not to mention the party waves! Check out Makana’s video of her experience here at Chica Brava and one of the many party waves that took place at Playa Hermosa!!
Makana also had the classic tendency to point out all the quirks that makes Nicaragua so ‘Nica’ with her trademark ‘random acts of…’ commentary. Whether it was ‘random acts of tortilla on the side of the road, cows on the beach, or crocodile in the river’ nothing went unnoticed by her! Indeed, all the charm of Nicaragua was embraced by this group, especially the ceviche and the fish tacos from Bad Ass eats. They embraced the surf, the ocean, and all the ‘random acts’ of awesome that San Juan del Sur has to offer. Their stoke was reflected in all the intentional aloha they spread, otherwise known as ‘buena honda’.
Aloha,
