This week we were charging the line-up Chica Brava style! Our group of five girls were all amazing both in and out of the water. We were blessed with great conditions for most of the week, managing to dodge the “viento”, score some fun waves and even get in a few poolside cocktails. The week started off with mastering the pop-up. Some of us were a bit rusty but by the end of day 1 we were all on the outside! Our two beginners quickly caught up with our other three intermediates to make for a pretty impressive group of women.
Two of our chicas were repeat customers, having had such an awesome time the last two trips to Chica Brava that they signed up again! Jackie, our resident Texas Mama, brought her almost 16 year-old daughter Cami for the best sweet 16 present ever. Jackie was already a pretty good surfer but by the end of the week she was angling down the line and riding nearly every wave all the way to the beach. Cami wowed us all with her determination and assertive paddling skills. She mastered going down the line and looked good doing it! We all thought we gave Cami some pretty important womanly advice but at the end of the day I think it was this 15 year-old that really taught us some lessons. Check out the video of Jackie and Cami to see their experience and waves at Chica Brava! Emilie from Utah by way of Wyoming, improved dramatically throughout the week. By Friday she was surfing as comfortably as if she was leading a rafting trip down the river. Emilie definitely stole the show dancing with Akim, Elsi’s 3 year-old son, Nica style at culture night. Caroline, our fearless “Canad” won best wipe-out of the week, courageously paddling for one of the biggest waves of the week, popping up and going straight down! Luckily she made most every wave after that, and had us all laughing with her epic dance skills. Amy, our other veteran Chica Brava, rode a shorter board and worked on choosing rights and lefts. By the end of the week she was surfing with style and grace, complete with fantastically planned dismounts.
We couldn’t be more proud of this amazing group of women and the great waves they caught. What an awesome week!
